A serious domestic violence case in Georgia has led to the arrest of a teenage suspect accused of attacking his pregnant girlfriend. Police say the situation escalated through multiple violent incidents, raising concerns about safety and abuse in relationships.
Teen arrested in Georgia assault case
The incident took place in Warner Robins, where 18-year-old Lucas Hayden was arrested following a reported altercation with his girlfriend.
According to the Houston County Sheriff’s Office, Hayden faces several charges, including aggravated assault, kidnapping, and criminal damage to property.
Initial argument turns physical
Police say the situation began on April 11 when officers were called to the woman’s residence around 12:15 p.m. following reports of a fight.
Investigators learned that the couple had an argument, during which Hayden allegedly took the woman’s phone. In response, the girlfriend reportedly tried to hit him with her car multiple times as he attempted to leave.
A witness told officers that she tried to run him over several times before he managed to take her car keys and enter the house.
Escalation inside the home
After entering the house, Hayden reportedly locked the woman out before eventually letting her back in. However, the situation quickly escalated again.
Police say the couple got into another argument inside the kitchen, which turned violent. Hayden allegedly dragged the woman into a bedroom during the altercation.
Allegations of serious assault
According to the report, Hayden is accused of kicking the woman in the stomach while she was five months pregnant. Authorities also say he made threatening statements during the attack.
Investigators further allege that he used clothing and his arm to choke the victim during the incident.
Arrest and charges filed
Both Hayden and his girlfriend, identified as Ja’Dyia Smith, were arrested on April 20. However, Smith is no longer in custody.
Hayden remains in custody at the Houston County Detention Center without bond due to the seriousness of the charges.
Ongoing investigation
Authorities continue to investigate the case to gather more details about the events and determine any additional charges.
Cases involving domestic violence, especially where a pregnant individual is involved, are treated with high priority due to the potential risk to both the mother and the unborn child.
Importance of recognising abuse
This case highlights the dangers of escalating violence in relationships. Warning signs of abuse should never be ignored, and help should be sought immediately.
Support resources and law enforcement can play a key role in preventing further harm.
