A tense situation unfolded in Apex, North Carolina, after a man was arrested for allegedly making threats against former U.S. President Donald Trump. The incident, which took place at a local car wash, involved multiple law enforcement agencies and raised serious security concerns. Authorities acted quickly to detain the suspect and ensure public safety.
Incident reported at Apex car wash
The situation began on April 29 around 2:30 p.m. in Apex. Officers from the Apex Police Department were called to the Tidal Wave Auto Spa after receiving reports of suspicious behaviour.
Police said the man was allegedly making threats directed at Donald Trump. The situation quickly escalated due to the seriousness of the claims.
Threatening messages found on vehicle
According to officers, the suspect had written threatening messages on the outside of his SUV. Images from the scene showed white marker writing on several windows of the vehicle.
This unusual behaviour raised immediate concern among authorities and those present at the location.
Suspect believed to be heading to Washington, D.C.
Police identified the suspect as 41-year-old Daniel Rodney Swain, a resident of South Carolina. Investigators believe he may have been travelling toward Washington, D.C., at the time of the incident.
Due to the potential risk, officers detained him on the spot and contacted the United States Secret Service to assist with the case.
Bomb squad checks vehicle as precaution
As part of safety procedures, a state bomb squad was called to the scene. Authorities conducted a thorough check of the SUV to ensure there were no explosives inside.
Police described this step as a precaution and part of standard protocol in cases involving threats to high-profile individuals.
Arrest and charges filed
Swain was later arrested and taken to jail in Wake County. According to his arrest warrant, he was found in possession of methamphetamine.
He is currently facing the following charges:
- Possession of methamphetamine
- Resisting a public officer
- Fictitious license plate
At this stage, it is not clear whether any federal charges will be added.
Court appearance and custody details
Initial court records show that Swain was denied bond by a magistrate. Authorities reportedly considered him an “escape risk,” and he also has a federal detainer placed on him.
He was scheduled to appear in Wake County Court on April 30 for further legal proceedings.
Incident follows recent security scare
This arrest comes shortly after another alarming incident involving Donald Trump. Just days earlier, a man identified as Cole Tomas Allen allegedly entered a dinner event attended by Trump and Vice President J.D. Vance.
Authorities arrested Allen before anyone was harmed, and he was charged with attempted assassination. While the two cases are not directly connected, they both highlight ongoing security concerns.
Investigation continues
Officials have not released further details about the motive behind Swain’s alleged threats. The investigation is still ongoing, and more updates are expected as authorities review the case.
Law enforcement agencies are taking the matter seriously, especially given the involvement of a high-profile political figure.
