A deeply disturbing case in Natchez has shocked the community after a retired teacher was found dead under horrifying circumstances. Authorities say the victim’s own son is now facing serious murder charges.
What Happened in the Case
According to the Adams County Sheriff’s Office, 29-year-old Zachary Lavel Jackson Jr. has been charged in connection with the death of his mother, Lana Brown Bradley, a 62-year-old retired teacher.
Deputies were called to the home on April 4 for a welfare check after family members reported they had not been able to contact Bradley for days.
Disturbing Discovery at the Home
When officers arrived, they noticed something was not right. Authorities reported a strong smell of chemicals inside the house, suggesting attempts had been made to clean the scene.
While searching the home, deputies found Jackson inside a locked bathroom. Investigators say they discovered disturbing evidence there, indicating an attempt to hide what had happened.
Further searches inside and around the property led to the discovery of human remains.
Allegations Against the Son
Investigators allege that Jackson carried out the killing and then tried to conceal the crime. Authorities believe he attempted to dispose of evidence both inside the home and in nearby areas.
Sheriff Travis Patten described the case as one of the most shocking he has seen in his career.
Possible Motive
According to investigators, Bradley had recently expressed fear for her safety and was planning to remove her son from the home. Authorities say Jackson allegedly made threats shortly before the incident.
Family members also told police that Jackson had been dealing with mental health issues, though investigators noted that the actions appeared planned.
Legal Status
Jackson has been charged with multiple serious offences, including murder and tampering with evidence. He remains in custody at the local jail.
He has waived his preliminary hearing, and the case will now move forward to a grand jury for further proceedings.
Community Impact
The case has deeply affected the local community, especially because Bradley was known as a respected teacher. The nature of the crime has also raised concerns about safety and mental health support.
