What Happened in This Case?
The incident took place in Afton, where emergency services responded to a call about an unresponsive infant on December 10, 2024. When officers and medical teams arrived, they found the baby in critical condition.
First responders immediately performed CPR and rushed the child to University of Virginia Medical Center for treatment. Despite medical efforts, the baby, identified as Cyrus James Garfield, died four days later.
Investigation and Medical Findings
An autopsy conducted by medical experts later revealed serious and disturbing details. The cause of death was confirmed as suffocation, and the injuries were said to be consistent with child abuse. Reports also showed that the infant had multiple broken ribs that had occurred before his death, suggesting ongoing harm.

Mother’s Arrest and Sentence
