A major development is expected in a 2020 murder case from Charleston, as sentencing is scheduled for one of the accused.
Sentencing Scheduled
According to the Ninth Circuit Solicitor’s Office, Darcellus Fishburne, 21, will appear in court for sentencing on Thursday. He has already pleaded guilty to murder, armed robbery, and attempted armed robbery. The hearing will take place before a circuit court judge who had earlier accepted his guilty plea and delayed the sentencing.
Details of the Crime
The case goes back to July 17, 2020, when Tom DiLorenzo, 63, was shot and killed during an attempted robbery. He was walking in downtown Charleston with his wife at the time. The incident shocked the local community due to its sudden and violent nature. Authorities later revealed that Fishburne was only 15 years old when the crime took place.
Series of Robberies
Investigators said the shooting was part of a larger crime spree carried out the same day. Fishburne and two other teenagers had reportedly travelled from North Charleston to downtown using a stolen vehicle. Within a short period, they were involved in multiple robberies. One of the earlier incidents included the armed robbery of a 74-year-old woman, which happened just minutes before the fatal shooting.
Other Accused
Two other individuals, Travis Wilson and Jaylen Grant, have also been charged in connection with the case. Their legal proceedings are still ongoing, and no final outcome has been announced yet.
