The peaceful morning in Louisiana turned into a heartbreaking tragedy when a man opened fire on his own family and others, leaving a community in shock. The incident, which took place in Shreveport on April 19, has left many people struggling to understand how such a horrific act could happen.
What Happened in Shreveport
According to police officials, the suspect, identified as Shamar Elkins, shot a total of 10 people early Sunday morning. Among the victims were eight children and two adults. The situation quickly turned into a police chase after the suspect fled the scene in a stolen vehicle.
Police later tracked him down in Bossier Parish, where officers shot and killed him after he refused to stop. Authorities said they had no choice but to open fire to stop the threat.
Victims of the Tragedy
The most painful part of this incident is the loss of eight young lives. Officials confirmed that seven of the children were the suspect’s own children, while the eighth child was believed to be a family friend.

Police reports suggest that the shooting began at one house on Harrison Street, where the suspect first shot his wife. He then moved to another nearby home on West 79th Street, where the rest of the victims were attacked.
Authorities described the crime scene as very large, covering two separate houses. Many of the children were reportedly shot while they were asleep, making the incident even more disturbing.
A 13-year-old boy managed to escape by jumping off the roof of the house. Although he survived, he suffered broken bones.
