NCPD reports that a panhandler robbed a man and fled the scene with $100.

A woman has been arrested in North Charleston after being accused of robbing a man during a panhandling encounter. Police say the incident happened suddenly and was quickly investigated using surveillance footage.

Incident Reported in North Charleston

The case took place in North Charleston, where officers from the North Charleston Police Department responded to a call about a robbery.

According to police, a man reported that a woman approached him asking for money. When he refused, the situation quickly turned serious.

Alleged Robbery During Encounter

Officials say the suspect became angry after being denied money. She then allegedly reached into the victim’s pocket and forcefully took around $100 before running away from the scene.

The victim immediately contacted police, which helped officers begin their search without delay.

Police Use Surveillance to Track Suspect

Officers reviewed surveillance footage from the area, which played a key role in identifying the suspect. One officer recognised the woman from the video and began searching nearby locations.

Police later spotted a woman matching the description, although she had changed her clothes. According to the report, she tried to avoid officers by moving between businesses and even discarded some items she was carrying.

Suspect Identified and Arrested

When officers stopped the woman, they brought the victim to the location. He confirmed that she was the same person who had robbed him.

The suspect was identified as Lakeysha Lassiter, 43, from North Charleston. She has been charged with strong-armed robbery.

Taken Into Custody

After the arrest, Lassiter was taken to the Al Cannon Detention Center, where she is currently being held.
