A 30‑year‑old Kentucky man, Jeremiah Page, has been charged with attempted murder and first‑degree assault after allegedly attacking a random man with a cleaver on a Louisville street and telling police he tried to kill him “because he was a foreigner.”
What happened in the attack
On Monday around 5:30 p.m., Page was walking on the 7300 block of Preston Highway in Louisville when he approached a man who does not speak English and began swinging a cleaver at him, striking the victim twice in the head and once in the shoulder, according to police and the arrest citation. After the assault, Page ran away, but responding officers caught him nearby still armed with the cleaver. Multiple witnesses and video captured the attack, and the victim was rushed to a hospital with life‑threatening injuries; police confirmed he was still alive as of Wednesday but have not released further details on his condition.
Motive and his statements to police
When questioned, Page confessed to the attack and told investigators that the man was “trespassing on his land” and that he attacked him “because he was a foreigner.” He also allegedly claimed that he “owned all of Louisville,” comments authorities have treated as signs of a possible hate‑driven or delusional mindset.
Court action and bond
Page appeared in court on Tuesday, where his bond was set at $750,000. He is scheduled to return to court on April 17 as the case continues. The incident has drawn attention to concerns about random, weapon‑based violence and anti‑immigrant or xenophobic motivations in public spaces.
