A Utah teacher faces charges after a developmentally delayed student drank hard seltzer from her tumbler in class, causing a fall and head injury.

Incident Details (March 18, 2026, Farmington)

Victim: Flor Perry, 21 (mental age ~2 due to 1p36 deletion syndrome; nonverbal, uses 20 hand signs). Adopted from Ecuador by Kim and Devin Perry.
What Happened: Teacher Katherine Meatoga allegedly sipped hard seltzer from a stainless steel tumbler at Vista Education Center (Davis School District). Flor grabbed it, drank an unknown amount, fell, and hit her head.
Prior Trauma: Flor endured abuse by another teacher in 2022 at a different school.

Meatoga charged with possession/consumption of alcohol on school grounds (class B misdemeanor); resigned. Court date: May 5.
