'We are all dying today': Man took parents captive and threatened to kill them during 14-hour standoff, according to police.

A 33‑year‑old Wisconsin man, Vance Lee, is accused of threatening to shoot his parents, barricading himself in their Milwaukee home, and arming the house with multiple guns during a 14‑hour standoff with police.

Threats and escalation

  • Over two days, Lee allegedly threatened his parents at their home on 68th Street and West Brentwood Avenue, at one point walking downstairs with a rifle and a handgun, telling them he “would kill everyone” and that he would hide in the basement if police arrived.
  • He reportedly called his brother and said, “We are all dying today,” prompting his parents to stay locked in their bedroom out of fear while still saying they loved their son but could no longer endure the threats.

The standoff and arsenal

  • Police responded on March 28 around 8:45 a.m. but Lee refused to come out, barricaded the house, and shot down a police drone with a shotgun from the second floor.
  • Authorities used tear gas and armored vehicles as the standoff stretched into the night; about 14 hours later, at roughly 10:20 p.m., Lee surrendered. Inside, officers found a shotgun, four rifles, five handguns, body armor, and about 800 rounds of ammunition.

Charges and court status

  • Jail and court records show Lee was charged with failure to comply with an officer’s attempt to take him into custody, disorderly conduct, endangering safety by use of a dangerous weapon, and ten counts of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
  • He also admitted to recent alcohol and methamphetamine use and was booked on a $50,000 bond; he is scheduled to appear in court on April 7.
