Walmart shopper slices employee's throat deeply enough to reach her lung: Cops

Tokyia Brown, 52, of North Carolina, is facing serious criminal charges after allegedly slashing a Walmart employee’s throat in a parking‑lot attack that began with a grocery cart shoving a car.

What investigators say happened

Police say the victim, a Walmart employee, was on her dinner break sitting in her car at the Walmart on West Wendover Avenue in Greensboro around 7:30 p.m. Her window was down when Brown, a passenger in another vehicle, pulled up beside her. Brown allegedly pushed a shopping cart from a nearby parking space into the victim’s car, sparking a verbal exchange.

After the victim exited her car, Brown reportedly pulled a “sharp object” from her keychain and slashed the woman’s neck, cutting her carotid artery and leaving a wound deep enough to reach the top of her left lung. The victim ran into the store, pressing on the severely bleeding wound; store employees called 911, and she was rushed to the hospital. She later underwent surgery, but her injuries are not considered life‑threatening.

Charges and background

Brown was arrested and charged with assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill. Surveillance footage from the Walmart parking lot captured the incident, which police cited as key evidence. She is being held at the Guilford County Correctional Facility without bond.

Court records show Brown is unemployed and has a prior conviction for simple assault. Earlier charges of assault with a deadly weapon and communicating threats were dismissed. The case is now moving through the Guilford County court system, where prosecutors will seek to prove that Brown’s actions were intentional and extremely dangerous.
