A tragic highway crash in Arizona has led to serious criminal charges, with authorities saying impaired driving played a key role in the deadly incident.
Deadly Crash on Arizona Highway
Police say 48-year-old Amy Lynn Mickelson is accused of causing a fatal crash on U.S. 93 near Congress, Arizona. The incident happened on December 7, 2024, but she was arrested recently after a long investigation.
According to the Arizona Department of Public Safety, Mickelson was driving a BMW when she allegedly crossed the center line and crashed head-on into a Toyota minivan.
Three People Killed, Children Injured
The crash resulted in the deaths of three people inside the minivan. Reports say the victims included a 51-year-old driver, a 44-year-old passenger, and a 17-year-old.
Four other passengers, all children between the ages of 5 and 16, were seriously injured. They were taken to the hospital and are expected to survive.
Vehicle Caught Fire After Impact
Witnesses at the scene described a horrifying situation. The BMW reportedly caught fire shortly after the crash, with heavy smoke seen rising from the vehicle. Bystanders rushed to help rescue those involved before emergency teams arrived.
Both vehicles were badly damaged, showing the severity of the collision.
Alleged Impairment and Charges
Authorities believe Mickelson was impaired at the time of the crash, although specific details about the impairment have not been released.
