A woman was arrested for a scam that targeted a Florida victim.

Florida authorities arrested Brenda Huggins, 56, from Charleston, South Carolina, for grand theft after scamming a Leon County woman out of thousands in a fake jury duty warrant scheme.

Scam Details

The victim got a call claiming she’d missed jury duty, triggering an arrest warrant—scammers demanded “fines” via Green Dot prepaid debit cards bought at Leon County stores. FDLE’s Economic Crime Squad launched a probe after her September 2025 report, tracing ATM withdrawals in Charleston to Huggins.

Arrest Process

On February 10, 2026, SLED searched Huggins’ home while FDLE issued her warrant; Charleston PD nabbed her on-site. She’s jailed pending Florida extradition. Case prosecuted by Second Judicial Circuit State Attorney; investigation ongoing.

Scam Warning

Jury duty frauds are surging in Florida—real agencies never phone/email demanding payment or threaten arrest. Hang up, avoid sharing info, report to local police or FTC. Common red flags: prepaid cards, urgency, “officer” demands.
