A gas leak has closed two roadways in Charleston.

CHARLESTON, S.C. – The Charleston Police Department closed two downtown roads Thursday because of a gas leak. George Street and Society Street are shut to vehicles and pedestrians between Meeting and King streets due to the ongoing situation.

Details of the Gas Leak and Emergency Response

Dominion Energy crews arrived near the intersection of Meeting and Society streets around 10 a.m. to address the leak. According to the utility provider, a third-party contractor damaged one of their natural gas lines, causing the leak. Emergency crews worked to secure the line, which was completed around 11:30 a.m.

Repairs and Safety Measures in Progress

Crews will remain on site to complete final repairs. Authorities are urging the public to avoid the area as the work continues to ensure safety and resolve the issue.
