RICHLAND COUNTY, S.C. — An inmate in the South Carolina prison system has been sentenced to 13 years after pleading guilty to a drug trafficking conspiracy, according to the Fifth Circuit Solicitor’s Office.

Details of the Offense and Sentencing

Alicia Nicole Hicks, who was incarcerated with the South Carolina Department of Corrections at the time of the offense, pleaded guilty on February 19 to criminal conspiracy, furnishing contraband, and trafficking more than 10 grams but less than 28 grams of methamphetamine, second offense. A circuit judge sentenced Hicks to 13 years in prison.

Investigation and Discovery of Drugs

The case began in January 2023 when an attempt was made to smuggle about 12 grams of methamphetamine into the Camille Griffin Graham Correctional Institution. During a routine search, correctional officers seized the drugs from another inmate identified as Hicks’ co-conspirator. Investigators determined Hicks coordinated the acquisition and delivery of the methamphetamine within the prison.
