A Shelby woman faces charges after a man was struck and killed while crossing the street in Boiling Springs on February 17, according to the Boiling Springs Police Department.

Details of the Incident

According to a news release, 47-year-old Quantina Leach was driving north and turning onto East College Avenue when she struck 71-year-old Dragan Stankovic of Gaffney, South Carolina, who was walking in the crosswalk. Police said Leach remained on the scene, and Stankovic was transported to the hospital where he later died from his injuries.

Charges and Community Response

Leach has been charged with misdemeanor death by motor vehicle. Chief Brian DiYorio expressed his condolences on behalf of the Boiling Springs Police Department, stating, “This is a heartbreaking incident for everyone involved and for our entire community.” He emphasized the importance of road safety and urged the community to remain patient, attentive, and cautious while on the road to prevent further tragedies.
