Lanes reopen after truck with 'large load' hits sign on I-526 and then strikes I-26 overpass.

NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. – On Wednesday, the westbound lanes of I-26 were closed for several hours after a truck carrying equipment struck an overpass. The incident occurred at the Eagle Drive overpass, near mile marker 210.

Sequence of Events: I-526 to I-26

According to the South Carolina Highway Patrol, the truck, a tractor-trailer with a “high load,” initially struck a sign on I-526 westbound just before Rivers Avenue, blocking one lane of traffic. The driver, unaware of the initial damage, continued driving onto I-26, where the truck collided with the Eagle Drive overpass.

Lanes Reopened, Investigation Underway

All lanes on I-26 have since reopened. It’s still unclear whether the overpass sustained any damage, and the South Carolina Highway Patrol continues to investigate the incident. Authorities are reminding drivers to be cautious when traveling through the area.
