A home fire in Mount Pleasant has temporarily closed Ferry Street.

Emergency crews responded to a house fire on Simmons Street in Mount Pleasant on Monday afternoon.

Initial Call Reported as Explosion

Authorities received the call around 2 p.m., with the incident initially reported as an explosion. The situation was later reclassified as a structure fire after callers reported flames spreading into the home.

Multiple Agencies Respond

The Mount Pleasant Fire Department was first to respond. While en route, the response was upgraded after additional information indicated the fire had extended into the house.

The Charleston Fire Department, Charleston County EMS, and Mount Pleasant Police Department also arrived on scene to assist.

Road Closures and Fire Contained

Mount Pleasant Police said the fire was extinguished, but a portion of Ferry Street remained closed as of 4 p.m. while crews completed operations.

Home Deemed Unlivable

Two homeowners and their pets were able to safely escape. No injuries were reported.

Officials on scene noted significant damage to the roof and heavy interior damage within the attic. Due to the extent of the destruction, the home was deemed unlivable.

Investigation Underway

Fire marshals are actively investigating the cause of the fire. Updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
