Firefighters in North Charleston, South Carolina, battled a house fire on Thursday in the 2500 block of Vistavia Road and unexpectedly encountered nearly 20 snakes inside the home. The North Charleston Fire Department controlled the flames within about seven minutes, with no human injuries reported, though one resident was displaced.
Incident Details
Crews entered the burning structure to fight the fire and search for occupants, discovering 19 snakes, some venomous, during operations. Six of the snakes died due to fire conditions, and all were accounted for by Sunday, with involvement from police and animal control.
Ongoing Investigation
The fire’s cause remains under investigation by authorities. This event echoes a similar 2016 incident on James Island where firefighters faced venomous snakes in a fire, though on a larger scale with 80 reptiles.
