Missing Mount Pleasant man discovered dead in Hobcaw Creek.

James Parker, a 67-year-old longtime reporter for The Post and Courier who suffered from Alzheimer’s, was found deceased in Hobcaw Creek in Mount Pleasant, South Carolina, on January 31, 2026.

Discovery Details

Parker was reported missing from the Hobcaw Point neighborhood off Mathis Ferry Road around 7 p.m. on January 30 after last being seen jogging near Bampfield Drive. Chief Deputy Coroner Brittney Matin confirmed his body was recovered around 9 a.m. the next morning; an autopsy is pending to determine cause of death.

Mount Pleasant Police announced he had been located by 11 a.m. on Saturday. The incident prompted calls for information to their dispatch at 843-743-7200; Parker’s family requested privacy as arrangements are pending.
