Charleston Police accuse man in auto-pedestrian hit-and-run death of woman, 78.

Charleston police arrested 49-year-old Trevis Dwayne Deas on January 26, 2026, for a hit-and-run fatal crash that killed 78-year-old pedestrian Christine Harris on December 15, 2025.​

Crash Details

Around 8:30 a.m., Deas, driving a bronze Toyota Camry, struck Harris as she crossed a business driveway from the sidewalk on the 1200 block of King Street near Mount Pleasant Street. She died at the scene.

Investigation Outcome

Deas initially fled but returned minutes later, admitting involvement; his vehicle showed front-end damage. Police charged him with leaving the scene of an accident involving death after confirming he failed to render aid, call 911, or seek medical help.​

Custody Status

Deas was booked into Al Cannon Detention Center pending a bond hearing and faces an additional hit-and-run charge involving minor injury, though its relation to this case is unclear.
