Jalin A. White, a 22-year-old from Milwaukee, Wisconsin, pleaded guilty on December 30, 2025, to one count of physical abuse of a child causing great bodily harm and one count of child neglect resulting in great bodily harm. Milwaukee County Circuit Court Judge Anderson M. Gansner sentenced him to 12 years in prison followed by 7 years of extended supervision, slightly below the state’s recommended 14 years. The incident stemmed from White throwing his 8-month-old son against a wall on November 5, 2024, while frustrated during a game of NBA 2K.
Incident Details
White was alone with the infant, referred to as JW in court documents, in a rented room at a family home on 42nd Street when the mother left briefly. Upon returning, she found the baby barely breathing with his right arm twitching, leading her to call 911 after consulting her father. White initially provided inconsistent explanations, such as the baby falling from an air mattress or while he played the video game, before admitting he threw the child because he felt heavy while holding him during a tense fourth-quarter moment down by two points.
Child’s Injuries and Recovery
The infant suffered a large skull fracture, brain hemorrhage, six rib fractures at different healing stages, and a healing clavicle fracture. He required intubation, lost his pulse needing multiple CPR rounds, and underwent a craniectomy, with initial prognosis doubting survival. The child recovered but now faces ongoing issues including vision problems, feeding tube dependency, and weekly specialist visits.
