Charleston County, South Carolina – The Charleston County Coroner’s Office has officially named a woman slain in a suspected domestic dispute at a North Charleston apartment complex earlier this week.
Laury Villalobos Soler, 34, of Venezuela, died Monday in an incident at her Dorchester Road apartment.
Luis Oscar Ocanto, 38, is suspected of killing Ms. Soler and fled in her vehicle.
At before 8:30 a.m., North Charleston police were summoned to do a welfare check by a worried friend of the victim.
According to a North Charleston police report, the complainant was concerned because they had heard that the suspect, Ocanto, had previously fought with the victim, and when they attempted to contact her, she did not answer.
Ms. Soler’s door had been kicked in, so the responding officer investigated the apartment and discovered her body in a bedroom.
Ocanto was apprehended the same day near Kingsland, Georgia, when an officer pulled him over for speeding on I-95. When the police ran the tag and vehicle number, the car was identified as stolen out of North Charleston.
He is currently being held in a jail in Camden County, Georgia, awaiting extradition. Ocanto is accused with murder and possession of a stolen automobile.
