WAGENER, South Carolina – The Aiken County Coroner’s Office has identified the fatality of a two-car collision into Lake Neeses.
Jacob Langley, 21, was declared dead at the site at 1:40 p.m. and will be autopsied in Newberry next week, according to the coroner’s office.
Langley was driving a 1991 GMC Sonoma, while the other motorist, who was not seriously hurt, was driving a 2013 Chevrolet Silverado, according to officials.
After the two cars collided in the pond early Saturday afternoon, the Aiken County Sheriff’s Office and Coroner’s Office arrived to the scene.
According to the coroner’s office, the accident occurred at 1:03 p.m. on Wagener Road near Flowing Wells Road. The Sonoma and Silverado were going east on Wagener Road when the Silverado collided with the GMC as it made a left turn onto Flowing Wells Road, forcing both vehicles to smash into the pond.
Lanes on Wagener Road reopened at 4:30 p.m., and the scene began to clear soon before 5 p.m.
A dive team and Couchton Fire Rescue also responded to the incident.
Deputies say they alerted the South Carolina Highway Patrol and the South Carolina Department of Natural Resources.
