The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued the alert due to strong winds lifting dust into the air, significantly reducing visibility and creating dangerous travel conditions.
Low Visibility Near Burn Scar Areas
The most hazardous areas are expected to be near the Jakes Fire Burn Scar, where high winds are kicking up loose soil, causing blowing dust and sudden drops in visibility. According to the NWS in Elko, visibility in affected areas may fall to as low as one-quarter mile.
Driving Could Be Dangerous
The NWS warns that driving may be hazardous, especially on open highways, rural roads, and exposed stretches of roadway. Motorists are advised to:
