According to the National Weather Service, valleys in northern and western Pennsylvania, including Clearfield, Elk, Potter, and Somerset counties, could fall to 32–35 degrees. Similar cold spots are expected in Garrett County, Maryland, and Highland County, Virginia. In Pittsburgh, temperatures will stay closer to 40 degrees, but rural areas such as DuBois and Somerset are at greater risk of frost forming in sheltered locations.
Chilly Air Extends Into New York and New England
The frost risk stretches northward into central New York and northeastern Pennsylvania, with places like Binghamton, Elmira, and the Catskills possibly dipping into the upper 30s. By Monday night, Vermont’s Northeast Kingdom and New Hampshire’s northern valleys could also see their first frost of the season as clear skies and calm winds allow temperatures to fall.

The first frost can damage sensitive plants, so the National Weather Service recommends:

Harvesting vulnerable late-season crops ahead of time
