Athena Georgopoulos, 39, and her partner Andrew Gunn, 50, were found brutally slain in their home on Monday, August 11, in Mount Waverley. Authorities discovered Georgopoulos, who was five months pregnant, beside Gunn, whose decapitated body was found with his head placed on a spike. The crime scene also showed signs of vandalism with graffiti covering the home.
Neighbors React to the Tragedy
The discovery of the bodies has left neighbors reeling. Ben Scott-Sandvik, who lives in an apartment in the area, described his shock after finding the bodies. He spoke to the Herald Sun, saying, “No one should have to come across what I saw down there,” and added, “Nobody needs to live knowing that this sort of thing has happened to their families.”
Dimmi, a local resident who knew Georgopoulos from childhood, expressed her deep sadness. She recounted how she had not been aware of Georgopoulos living in the area and was devastated by the news. “She was a lovely girl. A very nice girl. I’m so, so sad,” Dimmi said, reflecting on their past connection.

Athena Georgopoulos’ mother, Petty Georgopoulos, shared an emotional tribute to her daughter on social media. In a post written in Greek, she said, “I will not cease to always love you. Until we meet again my daughter, in the angel’s light.”
Arrest of Suspect Ross Judd
Just hours after the bodies were discovered, authorities arrested a suspect at a train station about four miles from the crime scene. The suspect, 34-year-old Ross Judd, was reportedly found with blood on his shirt at the time of his arrest. Judd, who is unhoused, has been charged with two counts of murder.
While police have not disclosed the exact nature of Judd’s relationship with the victims, they have confirmed that he was known to the couple. Authorities stated that Judd was apprehended at Westall train station in the early hours of the morning.
