If you’re waiting for your Social Security payment this month, look no further! Here’s the full payment schedule for July 2025, so you can mark your calendar and stay on top of when to expect your benefits.
When Do Social Security Payments Go Out This Month?
Thursday, July 3rd, was the first payment date for certain Social Security recipients, including those who started receiving their retirement, disability, or survivors benefits (RSDI) before May 1997. This date also marked payments for Supplemental Security Income (SSI) recipients, who normally get their payments on the 1st of the month. However, with July 1st falling on a Tuesday, some payments were synced with the regular Social Security dates, meaning July 3rd was the payment date.
Upcoming Payment Dates in July 2025
Here’s when the next group of payments will be made:
July 9th: Social Security payments go out for those born between the 1st and 10th of any month. This batch includes about 70 million Americans, so expect the money to hit your account on this date.
July 16th: Payments will be made to those born between the 11th and 20th of the month.
July 23rd: The last group of Social Security payments for July will go to those born between the 21st and 31st of any month.
What About the Cost-of-Living Adjustment (COLA)?
Starting January 2025, Social Security payments received a 2.5% cost-of-living adjustment (COLA). This means most checks are now about $50 bigger each month. While not a huge boost, every bit helps, especially with rising grocery prices. The average monthly payment for Social Security recipients is around $1,976, with the maximum possible payment being $5,108.
Social Security Overpayment Issues
Starting in July 2025, Social Security has begun reclaiming up to half of someone’s check if they were overpaid previously. In some cases, they may even withhold the entire payment. While there are hardship exceptions, qualifying for them can be a bit tricky. It’s putting some recipients in a tough spot, so it’s important to stay on top of your payment and reach out to Social Security if you think there’s an issue.
What to Do If Your Payment Is Late
It’s never fun to wait on your payment, and sometimes it can take longer than expected. The Social Security Administration suggests you wait three full business days before taking action. Here’s what to do:
Log into your mySocialSecurity account to ensure all your info is up-to-date.
If there’s still no payment, call your bank to check if there’s a delay on their end.
If the bank doesn’t have your payment, then contact the Social Security Administration at 1-800-772-1213, or visit your local office. Be prepared for long wait times, especially during this time of the month.
