Northern Minnesota residents should prepare for a chilly night as a frost advisory takes effect early Sunday morning, with temperatures expected to dip to 32 degrees in parts of the region. Sensitive plants could be damaged or killed if left unprotected.
Affected Areas
According to the National Weather Service in Duluth, the advisory will run from 2 a.m. until 8 a.m. Sunday across several areas, including:
Koochiching
North Itasca
Central and North St. Louis
Northern Cook and Lake counties
Communities such as International Falls, Ely, Hibbing, Isabella, and Bigfork are under the alert. The advisory also covers Voyageurs National Park, the Boundary Waters region, and tribal lands of the Bois Forte Band at Lake Vermilion, Nett Lake, and Deer Creek.
What You Need to Do
Residents are urged to protect their plants by bringing potted plants indoors or covering gardens with breathable cloth. Tender vegetation is especially vulnerable during the first frost events of the season.
What to Expect
The cold will be short-lived, and temperatures are expected to rebound during the day on Sunday. However, additional frost advisories may be issued later this week as more cool air moves into the Northland.
