Louisiana Driver Killed in Crash: Seat Belt Safety Urged by Authorities

A fatal crash early Monday morning on U.S. Highway 90 Frontage Road in Iberia Parish, Louisiana, has led to a tragic loss of life. Louisiana State Police are urging drivers to prioritize seat belt safety after the incident, which claimed the life of a New Iberia resident.

Crash Details and Cause of Death

The crash occurred shortly after 1 a.m. near Captain Cade Road. According to Louisiana State Police, 44-year-old Renota Lowther was driving a 2012 Infiniti M37 westbound when, for reasons still being investigated, the vehicle veered off the road. Authorities believe that Lowther overcorrected, causing the vehicle to cross the road again before leaving the roadway on the left side and overturning after hitting an embankment.

Unrestrained Driver

Lowther, who was reportedly not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash, suffered fatal injuries and was declared dead at the scene. Louisiana State Police have collected toxicology samples as part of their ongoing investigation into the crash.

Seat Belt Reminder from Louisiana State Police

Louisiana State Police are reminding the public that wearing a seat belt greatly reduces the risk of death or serious injury in the event of a crash. Troopers emphasize that all drivers and passengers should always be properly restrained and avoid driving while impaired, distracted, or fatigued. Such precautions can make the difference between life and death in a car accident.

Ongoing Investigation

The crash is still under investigation, and anyone with information about the incident is encouraged to contact Trooper First Class Peggy Bourque at the Louisiana State Police Troop I Public Affairs Section.
