Detroit: Three Men Charged in Shooting Death of 6-Year-Old Boy on East Side

Detroit, MI – Three men have been formally charged in connection with the heartbreaking death of 6-year-old Rylee Love, who was fatally shot while playing inside his home on Detroit’s east side.

According to the Detroit Police Department, officers responded to reports of gunfire at approximately 8:58 p.m. on July 27 near Anglin Street and Stender Avenue. When they arrived, relatives flagged them down outside a home in the 17400 block of Anglin Street, where they found Rylee suffering from a gunshot wound to the head. He was rushed to a local hospital, but tragically, he did not survive.

Gunfire From a Vehicle Led to Tragedy

Investigators say the gunfire came from a vehicle and was directed at a group of people standing outside. Several bullets reportedly missed the intended targets and instead struck Rylee inside his home.

Demontrel Benard Wilson, 30

Deonate Cornealous Cherry, 28

Terrance Jaland Blue, 28

The three were arrested on August 20, following an intensive investigation.

Charges Filed

The Wayne County Prosecutor’s Office has filed the following charges against the men:

First-degree murder

Conspiracy to discharge firearms from a vehicle causing death

Multiple weapons-related offenses

Additionally, Wilson and Blue face charges of possession of a firearm by a prohibited person due to prior legal restrictions.

The prosecutor’s office stressed that all individuals are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

Community Grieves Loss of Rylee Love

The shooting has left Detroit residents in shock and mourning. Rylee’s death adds to growing concerns over gun violence and its impact on innocent children in the community. Vigils, memorials, and outpourings of support for the family have taken place across the neighborhood.

Ongoing Investigation

Detroit Police continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the shooting, and anyone with additional information is urged to contact the department.

As the case proceeds through the courts, the community remains focused on seeking justice for Rylee and calling for safer streets across the city.
