Bangor, Maine Braces for Strong Storms, Gusts Up to 60 MPH Until 8 P.M. Saturday

Damaging winds and heavy rain are sweeping into Central Maine this Saturday, with a Severe Thunderstorm Watch in effect until 8 p.m. The storm system poses a threat to drivers and outdoor events across Bangor and the Central Highlands.

According to the National Weather Service in Caribou, storms are building ahead of a cold front. The main threats include wind gusts up to 60 mph and isolated downpours. The areas most likely to be affected are Bangor, Millinocket, and surrounding communities.

The cold front is expected to stall just offshore by tonight. However, an additional low-pressure system will bring more rain and showers to Downeast areas on Sunday. Northern regions could also experience patchy frost by Monday night, especially in higher areas like Caribou and Houlton.

Residents are advised to secure outdoor items, avoid unnecessary travel during the peak of the storm, and stay weather-aware. Cooler, dry air will take over next week, with below-average temperatures expected statewide.

Storm alerts will remain in effect through tonight, and further advisories may be issued if the weather pattern persists into early next week.
