Arkansas currently observes daylight saving time but there is a bill (HB 1069) filed to end daylight saving time in the state and permanently adopt standard time year-round. If passed, Arkansas would become the third state after Arizona and Hawaii not observing daylight saving time.
The main reasons for ending daylight saving time in Arkansas include:
- Negative health impacts like increased heart attacks and disrupted sleep cycles.
- Increased automobile accidents after clock changes.
- Economic loss due to reduced worker productivity during adjustment periods.
- Public fatigue over the biannual clock changes.
The bill has been reintroduced with momentum, especially after recent statements from President Trump supporting ending daylight saving time. Some concerns remain for border towns like Texarkana which would be split between standard and daylight time if neighboring Texas keeps DST. However, supporters believe Arkansans can adapt well to the change.
So, the very simple reason Arkansas doesn’t do daylight saving time yet but may soon is due to health, economic, and public preference reasons similar to Arizona and Hawaii, both of which already opt out to avoid these issues.

The day light savings help the kids. They already don’t get to burn the energy that helps them if they go to standred time. They get to play until 6:30 at least. Getting dark at 5:30 is not what’s best for them. It’s for the kids not the grown ups!!
