Gregory Tillman, 38, from Lorain, Ohio, faces charges of murder, felonious assault, weapons under disability, domestic violence, and vandalism after allegedly stabbing and shooting his girlfriend Rebecca Lee Guthrie, 44, to death, then shooting her 25-year-old son in their Akron home on the 500 block of Miles Avenue early on November 29, 2025.​

Akron police responded around 2:10 a.m. to reports of a shooting amid a domestic dispute; they found Guthrie on the living room floor with multiple stab wounds and a head gunshot, pronounced dead at 2:30 a.m. by the Summit County Medical Examiner. The 25-year-old son sustained a facial graze wound intervening and was hospitalized in stable condition; 18-year-old Marquis Terrell heard arguing escalate to gunshots and screams before wrestling the jammed gun away as Tillman fled.​

Arrest and Family Account

Officers apprehended Tillman nearby; he remains in Summit County Jail without bond, arraigned December 1. Terrell called 911 during the attack and noted Guthrie supported the jobless Tillman despite frequent arguments over 5-6 years, planning marriage; he now arranges her funeral.
