Jasper County, South Carolina – The Jasper County Sheriff’s Office (JCSO) has detained one person in connection with the bank robbery that occurred on Wednesday, October 22.
On October 22, the JCSO received a 911 call reporting a bank robbery in progress at TD Bank, situated at 13 University Parkway (Route 112) in Bluffton.
JCSO deputies and Hardeeville Police Department (HPD) arrived to the incident. Witnesses characterized the culprit as a black male fleeing on a bicycle, as reported by JSCO.
The Jasper County Sheriff’s Office provided WSAV with surveillance footage showing the suspect in disguise inside the bank.
Detectives were able to trace the suspect’s path and decided that he entered a little white SUV and fled the scene. The bicycle involved in the incident was later found in a nearby wooded area.
The suspect was identified as Elton Clinton Atkins of Summerville, South Carolina. A few hours after the heist, Atkins was found in the Charleston area. Officers from the North Charleston Police Department performed a traffic stop and arrested him.
Atkins is now being held at the Al Cannon Detention Center, awaiting transport back to Jasper County.
