Wando High School is set to honor the best athletes, coaches, and contributors to its athletic legacy with the creation of the Wando Athletics Hall of Fame. The idea for the hall of fame, which was initially championed by former football coach Bob Hayes, was put on hold during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Now, the school is ready to launch this important initiative and is seeking help from the public to nominate worthy individuals.
Purpose of the Hall of Fame
The Wando Athletics Hall of Fame will honor:
- Former student-athletes
- Teams
- Coaches
- Special contributors, such as administrators and booster club members
Additionally, the hall of fame will also include individuals from other schools in the east of the Cooper area, including Laing, Moultrie, and Lincoln High Schools.
First Class of Inductees
The initial class of inductees will include 10 to 15 individuals or teams, who will be celebrated during the **weekend of Wando’s home football game on August 28th.
Nominations and Submission
The school is inviting the public to help identify potential honorees. Nominations are open until May 1st, and individuals can submit their nominees in two ways:
- Online through the school’s website
- In person at the school, where a printed nomination form will be available
This hall of fame will serve as a lasting tribute to the legacy of excellence in Wando High School’s athletics, and school officials are excited to unveil the first group of inductees this fall.
