Union County high-speed chase finishes in Anson County with stop sticks and arrest.

A man was arrested after leading deputies on a high-speed chase that began in Union County and ended in neighboring Anson County.

According to the Union County Sheriff’s Office, deputies attempted to stop a vehicle on Highway 74 after observing the driver failing to maintain lane control. When a deputy activated blue lights, the vehicle fled.

Officials said the driver made a U-turn, drove through a grass median, and reentered the highway. During the more than 16-mile pursuit, the suspect allegedly exceeded 100 mph, crossed the center line multiple times, and threw items from the vehicle.

Pursuit Ends With Stop Sticks

The chase continued into Anson County, where the Anson County Sheriff’s Office assisted and deployed stop sticks, successfully bringing the vehicle to a stop.

The driver, identified as Devonte Robinson, was taken into custody. Authorities said he showed clear signs of impairment at the time of his arrest.

Bond Set at $50,000

Robinson was initially issued no bond due to prior charges but later had his bond amended to $50,000 at arraignment. He is currently being held at the Union County Detention Center.

Union County Sheriff Eddie Cathey praised deputies for their handling of the incident and thanked Anson County authorities for their assistance. He also issued a warning that fleeing from law enforcement in Union County will result in pursuit, additional charges, and potential vehicle seizure.
