A multi-county police chase in the Pee Dee region of South Carolina ended with the arrests of driver Mitchell Atkinson and passenger Travis Mills after a traffic stop attempt on North Cashua Drive in Florence County. The incident began around 10:30 p.m. Wednesday for a vehicle pulling an unsecured trailer without illuminated taillights, which later detached during the pursuit into Darlington and Marlboro Counties. Marlboro County deputies used a pursuit intervention technique to stop the vehicle, where authorities found suspected narcotics, drug paraphernalia, and burglary tools inside.
Suspect Details
Mitchell Atkinson faces multiple charges including methamphetamine possession, failure to stop for blue lights, resisting arrest, and prior warrants for heroin/fentanyl distribution from October 2024 sales to an undercover informant. Travis Mills was charged with possession of less than 1 gram of methamphetamine or cocaine base, resisting arrest, and possession of burglary tools, and was released Friday on a $9,000 bond.
Investigation Status
Both suspects were ejected from the vehicle during the chase, which authorities believe contained illegal drugs; Atkinson remains detained awaiting a bond hearing.
