A fatal rear-end collision on Interstate 95 in Jasper County, South Carolina, claimed the life of a Toyota Camry driver early Wednesday morning. The crash occurred around 5:05 a.m. near mile marker 1, just north of the Georgia state line.​

Crash Details

The 2026 Toyota Camry struck a stopped 2022 Peterbilt semi-truck in northbound traffic, according to the South Carolina Highway Patrol (SCHP). Master Trooper Joseph Rowell confirmed the Toyota driver was pronounced dead at the scene, with no other injuries reported.​

Road Closure Impact

First responders shut down northbound I-95, rerouting traffic through Port Wentworth, Georgia, which caused major backups near the Jasper County line. The interstate fully reopened by 8:30 a.m.​

Victim Identification

As of the latest reports, the Jasper County Coroner’s Office had not publicly identified the deceased driver. The incident remains under investigation by SCHP.​
