Greenville-Spartanburg, South Carolina A spotty wintry mix is affecting parts of the western Carolinas early this morning, with light freezing rain expected until 9-10 a.m., according to the National Weather Service in Greenville-Spartanburg.
Temperatures stay below freezing in sections of the Appalachians and foothills, raising the possibility of a light sheen of ice when freezing rain falls. Light sleet may also fall in isolated areas. Precipitation is forecast to progressively decrease in intensity until late morning as temperatures rise above freezing and moisture leaves the region.
Hazards and Travel Impacts
Even modest amounts of ice can provide dangerous driving conditions, especially on bridges, elevated routes, and untreated surfaces. Slick patches may form, and drivers are advised to provide additional distance between vehicles and limit speed.
