Charleston, S.C. – The Mommy Wellness Journey event at Citadel Mall is offering essential support to mothers throughout the Lowcountry, providing vital resources, education, and supplies for those navigating pregnancy and motherhood.

Offering Free Essentials and Education

The event featured live demonstrations and guest speakers focused on helping mothers through their pregnancy journey and beyond. It also offered free essential items, such as baby clothes, diapers, and even rolling pins—small yet impactful ways to assist mothers during these transformative times.

The Importance of Education

Kelvin Bostick, a dentist at the event, emphasized the need for more education for pregnant mothers, particularly regarding their health and care. “I think there’s a lot of non-education when it comes to pregnant mothers and how to care for pregnant mothers,” Bostick explained, underscoring the importance of providing information to help women during pregnancy.

Supporting Lowcountry Mothers in Need

For expectant mothers like Angel Padgett, who is due in August, the event is an invaluable resource. “I’m here because I’m a teen expecting mom,” Padgett shared. “I’m having a girl and I don’t have a lot of resources at home, so I’m taking advantage of everything I can get.” She expressed that the event helped her gather essentials for her baby, with a focus on baby clothes, wipes, and practical advice for being a good mother.

Partnerships with Local Organizations

The event also united local organizations, such as Humana Health Horizons, which provides resources like car seats, new cribs, and meals for eligible mothers after birth. Alex Tovar, Senior Community Engagement Coordinator for Humana Health Horizons, highlighted that they offer car seats, cribs, and up to ten weeks of meals for high-risk pregnancies, supporting mothers through some of their most vulnerable moments.

A Sense of Community and Support

For Padgett, the event was more than just about receiving resources. “I feel supported,” she said. “There are a lot of things I can take advantage of, and I don’t feel alone.” The Mommy Wellness Journey event provided a sense of community for mothers who may otherwise feel isolated, affirming that organizations have their backs.
