Tanger Outlets Charleston celebrates its new renovations with free festivities

Tanger Outlets Charleston has just completed a major renovation, offering shoppers a new, elevated experience that combines Charleston’s rich history with modern updates. The shopping center celebrated its refreshed look with a weekend full of fun activities, prizes, and a special ribbon-cutting ceremony.

A Fresh Look for Tanger Outlets Charleston

According to Andrea Gervacio, Marketing Director for Tanger Outlets Charleston, the goal of the renovation was to create a more vibrant, modern shopping environment while reflecting Charleston’s local charm.

“The property is 19 years old, and we needed a refresh. We’ve modernized our colors, and we’ve got a full paint job throughout the entire property. We’ve added a lot of new lighting, so as you come in through the evening, it’s a lot brighter,” Gervacio explained.

The renovations include fresh paint, updated lighting, and enhanced spaces, making the shopping experience more enjoyable for visitors both during the day and at night.

Ribbon-Cutting Ceremony & Live Music

The celebration kicked off with a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Thursday, marking the official opening of the renovated space. On Friday, the center hosted live music to add to the festive atmosphere.

“We had Mayor Burgess out here speaking about how excited he is about the growth and the development of Tanger as well. It’s been received really well,” Gervacio said.

Spin to Win & Free Prizes

Shoppers were treated to the Spin to Win event on Saturday, where they could spin a wheel on the Tanger app and win various prizes. Visitors like Jorge Macedo enjoyed playing and walking away with fun prizes.

“I got my mom and sister to do it, so I got three spins on the wheel. I got two pairs of sunglasses,” Macedo said.

Other shoppers scored great deals, including gift cards, beauty bags, and even stuffed animals.

“It was amazing. I got a $50 gift card. We spun the wheel and we got a free beauty bag,” said shopper Zakerria Herring.

For Alex and Nhi, the prizes didn’t stop there.

“We got a free cow and a free mug and everything,” they said, excited about their haul.

Family-Friendly Updates

A new kids’ play area was also part of the renovation, offering families a space for children to take a break from shopping.

“It’s usually hot out here, you know, and nothing is shaded. So, for her to be able to come over here and relax and play, it’s amazing,” Herring said about the new space.

Special Features: Inflatable Handbag & Hometown Mural

Among the fun additions is a life-size inflatable handbag designed to “catch the savings,” adding to the playful vibe of the center. Shoppers like Serena Zea couldn’t resist checking out the event and its freebies.

“I’ve shopped here for years, and I absolutely enjoy Tanger. So, I said I’ve must go because there are some freebies that they’re giving away,” Zea said.

Another highlight is the Hall of Hometown mural, which represents Charleston’s history and culture. It serves as a nod to the growing community around Tanger Outlets and connects shoppers with the local heritage.

“As the community around this was growing immensely, we needed to shift with it. So, it was really exciting for me to be a part of that planning process and provide something that I know our customers have been asking for,” Gervacio shared.

Supporting Local Businesses

The celebration also highlighted local vendors, giving small businesses a chance to be part of the event and showcase their offerings. Grandma’s Cheesecakes and D Sweet Grass Basketry and Charleston Chinaberry were among the local vendors who participated, appreciating Tanger’s support for smaller businesses.

“They’re looking out for small businesses like us and giving us the opportunity to use these renovations, be a part of the process,” said Marlon Bryant, owner of Grandma’s Cheesecakes.

Dionne Jones, owner of D Sweet Grass Basketry, echoed similar sentiments.

“Making things by hand, you don’t hardly see it as much anymore. I love that they allow small businesses to come in and set up as well,” she said.

What’s Next for Tanger Outlets Charleston

Looking ahead, Tanger Outlets Charleston plans to complete the final touches of the renovation by the end of 2025. The center is also set to introduce new stores, including Shake Shack, Lululemon, Auntie Anne’s, Jamba Juice, and The Children’s Place.

“Our goal is to keep adding fun new things as, you know, the suggestions come through from our customers. And then, of course, all of the new stores that are coming as well,” Gervacio said.

Tanger Outlets Charleston’s renovation celebration not only offered exciting new features and shopping opportunities but also provided a great way for the community to come together and support local businesses. With a refreshed look, new experiences, and more exciting stores to come, Tanger Outlets is poised to be a must-visit destination for shoppers in the Charleston area.
