Union County, South Carolina. The South Carolina Law Enforcement Division states that a Union County man was arrested on Thursday for impersonating an insurance agent.
According to the arrest warrants, 28-year-old Jhakia Sharvae Cureton purported to represent an insurance permitted to do business in South Carolina or to collect and conduct business for an insurer without the insurer’s consent.
He admits to posting on social media that he was an approved Allstate/Progressive dealer despite never having a professional business license. According to arrest warrants, he was contacted on March 8, 2024, by someone looking to get auto insurance before acting as an agent and binding insurance coverage through the Progressive website.
Cureton was charged with falsely identifying himself as an insurance professional and brought into Union County Detention Center, according to SLED.
The South Carolina Department of Insurance will prosecute the matter.
