One person died and one was injured in a head-on crash in Union County

Union County, South Carolina — A collision in Union on Tuesday night killed one person and injured another.

According to the South Carolina Highway Patrol, the collision occurred shortly after 11 p.m. on Monarch Highway at the Beltline Road intersection.

According to troopers, a GMC Sierra was heading north on Monarch Highway and a Kia Santa Fe was traveling south on Beltline Road when they crashed head on at the junction.

The driver of the GMC Sierra was the sole person in the vehicle and was not wounded in the accident.

Troopers said the Kia Santa Fe had two occupants. The driver of the Kia Santa Fe died at the spot, while the passenger was injured and transported by EMS.

The Union County Coroner’s Office has yet to identify the driver.

The South Carolina Highway Patrol is continuing its investigation into the circumstances surrounding the deadly crash.
