One driver died and another was hospitalized following a two-vehicle crash on West Frontage Road in Jasper County, S.C., around 6:45 p.m. Wednesday.

Crash Sequence

A 2012 Chevrolet Suburban veered off the left side of the northbound road near Gregorie Neck Road and Exit 28 on I-95, then overcorrected into a 2011 Dodge Ram pickup. The Dodge veered right as the SUV flipped into a tree; the Chevy then hit a utility pole and overturned.

Casualties and Status

The Dodge’s lone driver died at the scene; the Jasper County Coroner has not released the name. The Suburban’s solo driver was hospitalized with condition unknown; seatbelt use unclear for either. No other injuries occurred, and SC Highway Patrol continues investigating the initial cause.

Road Fatality Context

This marks the 106th South Carolina traffic death in 2026 through Sunday, after 914 statewide in 2025. Jasper County has seen two fatalities this year, up from 13 last year.
