Several fire departments in eastern Berkeley County, South Carolina, have officially merged to strengthen public safety and improve emergency response. The East Berkeley Fire District, Pineville/Russellville Fire Department, and Eadytown Metro Fire Department have consolidated with the North Berkeley Fire District. This move aims to streamline administration, unify resources, and improve coordination across the region.
All formal communications and updates related to public safety will now be shared through the North Berkeley Fire District’s Facebook page. Residents are encouraged to follow this page for the latest information.
This consolidation accompanies the development of the new North Berkeley Public Safety Campus in Bonneau, which broke ground recently. This 16,800-square-foot facility will house the North Berkeley Fire District, substations for the Sheriff’s Office and Emergency Medical Services, and serve as a backup 911 center. It will also include a helicopter pad and boats for water rescues on Lake Moultrie and the Santee River. The project, costing about $5.8 million, is among the county’s largest recent safety infrastructure investments and is expected to be completed by May 2026.
