SUMMERVILLE, S.C. — Starting next week, nightly road closures will take place in Summerville as crews work on paving and relocating utilities around North Maple Street, West 5th N Street, and Old Dairy Road. This work is part of the ongoing North Maple Street Extension project, which has been underway for over two years.
Affected Areas and Detour Routes
The overnight closures will impact North Maple Street from West 5th N Street to Old Dairy Road, with Old Dairy Road, Hodge Road, and Deming Way serving as the detour routes. The closures will take place on the following dates and times:
Monday Night (7 p.m. – 6 a.m. Tuesday morning), August 25
Tuesday Night (7 p.m. – 6 a.m. Wednesday morning), August 26
Wednesday Night (7 p.m. – 6 a.m. Thursday morning), August 27
Thursday Night (7 p.m. – 6 a.m. Friday morning), August 28
Traffic Flow and Safety
Traffic in the affected area will be rerouted with the help of flaggers and detour signs. Drivers are advised to stay alert when traveling through construction zones and to exercise caution around working crews.
Scope of Work
The project includes grading, drainage, and paving for Parsons Road, North Maple Street, W Richardson Avenue, and US 78/W 5th N Street. Additionally, Parsons Road will be relocated, and the project will feature improvements such as pavement markings, traffic signage, street lighting along North Maple Street, and updated traffic control measures.
