Moving forward with the construction of a new training facility for the West Ashley fire department

The City of Charleston Fire Department plans a new $45 million headquarters in West Ashley to serve as a training and operations hub on 45 acres at West Ashley Circle and Glenn McConnell Parkway.

Facility Features

The site includes a 30,000-square-foot three-story brick building for training and administration, a four-story training tower, fleet maintenance, fire marshal’s office, and logistics department. It replaces the outdated Milford Street facility, which will be demolished for Magnolia Landing development.

Environmental Considerations

About four acres will feature a stormwater pond and nine acres for wetland mitigation along the Church Creek Drainage Basin to reduce runoff and improve water quality.

Timeline and Next Steps

The design review board considers the plan on January 5, with state and federal permitting underway. Completion is targeted for late 2027 to early 2028 to support the city’s growth.
