A Weekend of Music and BBQ
The festival, set for August 23 and 24, 2024, will feature an impressive roster of performances, including Jamey Johnson, Molly Tuttle, Stephen Wilson Jr., Hiss Golden Messenger, Joshua Ray Walker, Leah Blevins, Henry’s Pocket, and a special performance by Marcus King & Friends with some surprise guests. It’s not just about the music; festival-goers will also be treated to some of the finest BBQ, with renowned pitmasters serving up their best dishes.
Fans can purchase either two-day tickets or single-day tickets through the Live Nation website. The event is expected to be a huge hit, offering something for everyone: great tunes, mouthwatering food, and a chance to experience a festival unlike any other.
Marcus King’s Vision for the Festival
This year’s festival marks the first time Marcus King is bringing his Family Reunion to the Lowcountry, though he’s been hosting these reunions for years now. The inaugural event was held in Black Mountain, North Carolina, back in 2019. Growing up in Greenville, South Carolina, Marcus has fond memories of family beach vacations to Isle of Palms, which inspired him to bring the event to this coastal region.
The Marcus King Band Family Reunion is more than just a festival; it’s an embodiment of King’s childhood memories of family potlucks and jam sessions at his great-grandparents’ home. He fondly recalls the joy of music bringing family together, and now, he hopes to share that same joy with all of his fans.
King expressed his excitement, saying, “This is where I learned about the joy music could bring and how it’s a powerful force that brings us all together. I want to bring that same joy to all of you folks this year with the return of the annual Marcus King Band Family Reunion. We’re thrilled to bring the reunion down to the coast of South Carolina!”
What to Expect on Each Day
The festival will kick off on August 23 with performances from Jamey Johnson, Molly Tuttle, Marcus King & Friends, Leah Blevins, and Pearl. The final day, August 24, will close out with performances by the Marcus King Band, Stephen Wilson Jr., Hiss Golden Messenger, Joshua Ray Walker, and Henry’s Pocket.
As an added bonus, the festival will also feature some amazing barbecue for attendees, especially those with VIP passes. The All-Pro Smoke Show: Live Fire will feature BBQ from renowned pitmasters such as Andy Knudson, Will Andrews of Rolling Bones, Aaron Siegel, Taylor Garrigan of Home Team BBQ, and Matt Register of Southern Smoke.
Giving Back with the Curfew Fellowship Fund
As if the festival wasn’t exciting enough, $1 from every ticket sold will benefit the Curfew Fellowship Fund, a charity established by Marcus King to support individuals struggling with sobriety and to fund music education initiatives. This commitment to giving back makes the festival even more special, as attendees can enjoy the event while also contributing to a good cause.
New Music From Marcus King
The festival coincides with the upcoming release of Marcus King’s latest album, Darling Blue, set to drop on September 26, 2024. King has called the album “a love letter to the place that made me,” and fans will get a sneak peek at some of the new music during the festival. The first two singles from the album have already been released, with Jamey Johnson featured on the track “Here Today.”
The Marcus King Band Family Reunion Festival promises to be a weekend of amazing music, delicious food, and unforgettable memories. Whether you’re a longtime fan of Marcus King or simply love live music, this event will bring something special to the Lowcountry. With a star-studded lineup, mouthwatering BBQ, and a focus on community, it’s a must-attend festival this summer.
