Authorities say a Midlands man is facing serious charges after allegedly stealing thousands of dollars from a vulnerable adult living in a nursing home in Lexington County.

The Vulnerable Adults and Medicaid Provider Fraud (VAMPF) unit with the South Carolina Attorney General’s Office arrested 41-year-old Demetrias Antonio Roberts of Irmo following an investigation into suspected financial exploitation.

Investigators allege that between July 18, 2025, and November 13, 2025, Roberts unlawfully accessed the victim’s bank account while serving as power of attorney. Officials say he made unauthorized withdrawals and purchases totaling $14,862.90 for his own personal use, providing no benefit to the victim.

At the time of the alleged exploitation, the victim was living in a nursing home in Irmo and is classified as a vulnerable adult under South Carolina law.

Roberts has been charged with one count of Exploitation of a Vulnerable Adult and one count of Breach of Trust with Fraudulent Intent involving a value of $10,000 or more. He was booked into the Lexington County Detention Center on February 19.
